4D_Additive 1.8 Adds Temporary Stiffeners to Limit Warping

1 min read

CoreTechnologie’s 4D_Additive 1.8 can generate temporary stiffening geometry during print preparation, aiming to reduce warping in large thin-walled parts without editing the final CAD design.

Warping depends on geometry

Large, flat and thin-walled parts are vulnerable to thermal gradients and residual stress. The 4D_Additive 1.8 update described on October 21 addresses this challenge during print preparation rather than requiring a permanent redesign of the component.

Stiffeners in the preparation software

The new Stiffener tool generates temporary honeycomb, triangular or square reinforcing structures. Users can configure cell size, placement and attachment points. Small connection elements hold the stiffeners to the part so they can be removed after cooling.

Where it may help

Manufacturing-only geometry can be added without necessarily changing the final CAD model. The trade-off is additional material and post-processing. The achievable reduction in warping will depend on geometry, material and process settings and should be verified through trial builds.
